Art Dhaka, a new fair bringing together traditional, modern and contemporary practice, will hold its first edition at Aloki in Dhaka from 6 to 10 November, with work by more than 130 artists.
Curatorial direction is led by Najmun Nahar Keya and Zihan Karim, who have set the fair against divisions of period or medium. Alongside the main fair sit a Print Pavilion curated by Fareha Zeba, positioning original prints as an entry point for new collectors, and Leaping Across Time, a show curated by Mustafa Zaman devoted to the artists who laid the foundations of modern art in Bangladesh. An Immersive Zone will present Rokeya Sultana’s Fata Morgana series, while an Architecture Pavilion designed by Rashed Chowdhury draws on Bengal’s architectural heritage and material traditions to test temporary, environmentally conscious structures.
Panel discussions will bring together artists, collectors and other stakeholders to address patronage, artistic infrastructure, public art and the sustainability of Bangladesh’s art ecosystem.
The fair was founded by Durjoy Rahman, of the Durjoy Bangladesh Foundation; Nahar Khan, founder of Solis; Fahd Sattar, chief executive of Aloki; and T. Aumia Khundkar, deputy managing director of ICE Media.
